Trivia

  • This show was an attempt to do a true surprise show.
  • Announced after the success of The Arsenio Hall show Liv Warfield and her band BlackBird were scheduled to perform with the NPG Hornz at the Hollywood Palladium on Friday 7 March at 8 p.m.. Tickets for this went on sale on Wednesday 5 March. However later afternoon on Thursday 6 March website thewrap.com featured an article that Prince would play two secret shows at the Palladium on 7 and 8 March. At 6:05 p.m. (PST) the venue’s twitter account @thepalladium then tweeted: "Bottle Service is available for tomorrow nights BIG show! Email thehollywoodpalladium@livenation.com for more information! #don’tmissthis", suggesting something 'bigger than a Liv Warfield show' was going to happen. This led to a great deal of speculation, subsequently tempered by two tweets of Prince manager Kiran Sharma around 2:30 p.m. (PST) on Friday reading:
"Spread the word #purplearmy #princearmy [smiley face] 2Nite its all about @livwarfield at @thepalladium, then Instrumental Jazz Jam at @TheSayersClub"
    Five minutes later followed by:
"After @livwarfield’s show 2nite, there will B an instrumental jazz jam at @TheSayersClub! Prince is expected 2 attend both but not 2 perform"
Both those tweets however were later deleted again. Late afternoon Friday blogger Dr. Funkenberry (who got some Prince exclusives in the past made a couple of tweet suggesting that there would be indeed a Prince show at the Palladium:
"SAY WHAT U WILL, BUT 3RDEYEGIRL DRUMMER HANNAH FORD IS SETTING UP HER DRUMS AS U READ THIS..."
"LIV WARFIELD WITH THE NPG HORNZ IS THE SCHEDULED PERFORMER BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE PRINCE HAS SOMETHING UP HIS FRINGED ARMBAND. AND IT'S NOT JUST AN AFRO PICK, BUT A GUITAR PICK."
"THE #PURPLEARMY TOOK OVER ARSENIO HALL'S SHOW BUT 2NITE IT'S HOLLYWOOD!!! EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED...STAY TUNED
    "
The venue’s twitter by now had tweeted: "Tickets available at the door tonight for Liv Warfield (@livwarfield featuring NPG Hornz @Prince_NPG) We’ll see you up in it tonight 8pm!", giving away nothing about a secret Prince show. Then at 7:39 AM PST a twitter account called @TheScenestar tweeted: "Set times for Prince at the Hollywood Palladium (@ThePalladium): Liv Warfield 9:30pm & Prince 12:00 a.m."
  • With Liv Warfield’s show over at 11:30 a black curtain was draped over the stage and venue staffs confirmed Prince was expected to perform.
  • At a quarter passed midnight Pretzelbodylogic was played over the venues PA system. After that Hannah Welton-Ford came with her customary speech about putting your phones away. After the show a remix of Pretzelbodylogic was played over the PA.
