A 7-minute rendition of Purple Rain was performed. At soundcheck ( on 27 January 1985) The Ladder, A Love Bizarre and Purple Rain were played * Prince won 3 awards that night: - "Favorite Pop/Rock Album" for Purple Rain - "Favorite Black Music Album" for Purple Rain - "Favorite Single" for When Doves Cry After the ceremony, 45 artists recorded the song We Are The World. Prince did not attend the recording, but Sheila E. did. Later backlash in the media from Prince's non-appearance led to him writing the track Hello.
