Allegiance is the third track (second song) on Howard Hewett’s fourth solo studio album Allegiance, and is written by Prince, although he does not appear on the released recording, which is produced by Tommy LiPuma.

Prince’s original version was first recorded in May 1988. Nothing else is know about recording and possibly overdubbing of the song, except that Howard Hewett’s version was also recorded at Paisley Park Studios, likely between late 1991 and late 1992. Allegedly efore Hewett recorded it, it was originally sent to his then-wife Nia Peeples for her consideration. When she passed on it, Hewett recorded the song with Timothy Riley producing.
