Bad

  • First appeared on: Michael Jackson: Bad (1987). Also released as a single in 1987.
  • Trivia: Prince declined Michael Jackson’s invitation to duet on the song. Producer Quincy Jones later claimed that Prince (politely) commented “You don’t need me to be on this, It’ll be a hit without me”. In a 1997 interview with Chris Rock, Prince commented on it: “The first line in that song is, “your butt is mine” so I was saying, ‘Who gonna sing that to whom? Because you sure ain’t singing it to me, and I sure ain’t singing it to you.’ So right there we got a problem”. Prince submitted Wouldn’t You Love To Love Me? instead but Michael Jackson didn’t use the song. In 2019, an interview with Susannah Melvoin stating that Prince reworked the song on his own and sent it to Michael Jackson was published online but Melvoin denied this shortly afterwards on Twitter saying she was misquoted and that this re-recording never happened.
