Dance On is the fifth song on Prince's tenth album Lovesexy. In 1989, a live version was included on the Lovesexy Live 1 VHS, taken from the 9 September 1988 live TV broadcast.

Basic tracking took place on 16 December 1987 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, Minnesota (the day after Sheila E. recorded lead vocal overdubs on Latino Barbie Doll, six days before The Line).
