Can’t Make U Love Me, a cover version of the song by Bonnie Raitt (originally titled I Can’t Make You Love Me, from her 1991 album Luck Of The Draw), is the tenth track on the first disc of Prince’s 19th album Emancipation, the third album to be credited to .
Five months after the album, it was included as the third track on a 12" promo single of Face Down, using the track’s original title, I Can’t Make You Love Me.
Basic tracking dates are unknown, but it is likely that the track was recorded in Summer 1996 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (the track features Rhonda Smith, who joined ’s band in June 1996).
An edit of the track was included as the sixth track on a planned maxi-single of Face Down, which was ultimately left as a promotional single only.
