Fancy Dancer is an unreleased cover version of the song by the Commodores (written by Lionel Richie and Ronald LaPread, from the 1976 album Hot On The Tracks), recorded on 11 September, 1990 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (during the same session as Horny Pony, Jughead, The Flow and a reworked version of Something Funky (This House Comes)) within hours of returning to the USA from the Nude Tour in Japan. It was tentatively intended for an album by his band, and would presumably have been credited to the New Power Generation if completed and released, but it is credited here as Prince and the New Power Generation as he likely recorded vocals for the track, and other tracks from the same session were released with that credit.
