Feel U Up was released as the b-side of Partyman, the second single from Prince’s eleventh album Batman. In 1993, it was included as the sixth track on The B-Sides compilation (included as the third and final disc on The Hits / The B-Sides).

In 2019, the original 1981 recording (mixed together with Irresistible Bitch) was released as the first track on the Vault Tracks part 1 disc of a Super Deluxe Edition edition of the 1999 album.

While specific recording dates are not known, Feel U Up was initially recorded around the same time but in a different session from Irresistible Bitch in November 1981 (estimate) at Prince’s Kiowa Trail Home Studio, Chanhassen, MN, USA.

The song was then completely re-recorded on 27 October 1986 at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA (the day after overdubs on Housequake, the day before Rebirth Of The Flesh and Rockhard In A Funky Place), as the earliest recorded song that ended up on the scrapped Camille album. This new version was included as the fourth track on the 5 November 1986 configuration of the album Camille, but it was discarded when that album evolved into the Crystal Ball triple-album.

The 1986 version as slated for the Camille album (dubbed Feel U Up (Long Stroke), but would have been on the Camille as just Feel U Up), was subsequently released when it was included on the Partyman single in 1989. A shorter edit (now dubbed Feel U Up (Short Stroke), but not previously slated for any specific release, was also on the Partyman single. The song was now simply credited to Prince, rather than the pseudonym Camille as it would have been in 1986.

  • The released mix of the November 1981 version was done by Niko Bolas specifically for the 1999 Super Deluxe Edition release. It was made to replicate the original mix from the time the song was initially tracked, as much as possible. So even when a slightly different mix of this track might exist, the now released version is not considered a true alternate mix of the track.
