| + | *Interestingly, a different edit of the ''Extended Remix'' of ''Gett Off'' was included as background music in [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Boy_Scout The Last Boy Scout] movie directed by [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Scott] and starring [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Willis Bruce Willis], [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damon_Wayans Damon Wayans] and [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halle_Berry Halle Berry]. The film, released in December 1991, was shot between March and June 9, 1991 i.e. before the single release in July and the maxi-single in August. The end-credits mention that the song was included ''"courtesy of Paisley Park / Warner Bros. Records Inc. by arrangement with Warner Special Products"''. The song is played by a DJ ([https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Griffin Eddie Griffin]) in a strip-club. It is not known if the differences in the mix come from the original recording provided by Warner or was altered during the shooting or the post-production stage. Due to this uncertainty, this version is not listed above. The song was not included on the film's soundtrack. |

Gett Off is the seventh track on Prince's 13th album Diamonds And Pearls, the first to be credited to Prince and the New Power Generation, and, two months prior to the album, Gett Off was released as the album's first single (released worldwide). It was the earliest song to be released with credit to Prince and the New Power Generation.
In 1993, it was included as the 15th track on Prince's second compilation album The Hits 2 (also included as the second disc of The Hits / The B-Sides).
The song borrows slightly from Get Off, released in 1990 on the New Power Generation maxi-single, and was developed with portions of a song called Glam Slam '91, played on the radio in January 1991.
Basic tracking took place on 10 May 1991 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (two days before Blue Light and saxophone overdubs on You're All I Want), and the track was intended initially as the main track on an EP also containing Horny Pony, Money Don't Matter 2 Night and an alternate version of Cream, but this EP was aborted, and instead, Prince chose to release the track as a limited edition 12" single to DJs and radio stations in its original, 9:22 version.
Response to the song was so high, that Prince decided to place Gett Off on Diamonds And Pearls, removing Horny Pony to do so. Gett Off then received a standard commercial release as a single. The Gett Off maxi-single contains various remixes and three new tracks which are largely based on Gett Off itself (Violet The Organ Grinder, Gangster Glam, and Clockin' The Jizz (Instrumental)). These tracks receive their own song entry pages, separate from this song.
On 27 September 1991, Prince recorded a track called Gett Off's Cousin. It is likely this track is an instrumental track with a similar musical backing to Gett Off rather than a remix; for more details, see Gett Off's Cousin.
