Goodbye (originally titled (Excuse Me Is This) Goodbye) is the tenth and final track on the third and final disc of Prince's 20th album Crystal Ball (his fourth using the name ).
Specific recording dates are not known, but basic tracking took place in December 1991, at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota, under its original title (Excuse Me Is This) Goodbye (during initial sessions for the album). In 1995, Prince worked on the song further, after Clare Fischer's orchestral arrangements were recorded in December 1994. It was included as the tenth and final track on 1995 configuration of Emancipation (as (Excuse Me Is This) Goodbye), but was removed as the album underwent many changes. According to the Crystal Ball liner notes, it was replaced by The Holy River.
