Goodbye (originally titled (Excuse Me Is This) Goodbye) is the tenth and final track on the third and final disc of Prince’s 20th album Crystal Ball (his fourth using the name SymbolSmallerBlue.png).

The song was likely recorded at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota, under its original title (Excuse Me Is This) Goodbye, but specific recording dates are not known. It was originally thought basic tracking took place in December 1991, however it is likely that this was in fact the unrelated song Goodbye that hails from that era. Clare Fischer’s orchestral arrangements were recorded in December 1994, after which Prince worked on the song further in 1995. It was then included (as Goodbye) as the tenth and last track on the 1995 New World album project, a precursor to what became the album Emancipation, and was also placed in the same position on an early configuration of Emancipation (as (Excuse Me Is This) Goodbye), but was removed as the album underwent many changes. According to the Crystal Ball liner notes, it was replaced by The Holy River.
