Grand Central

Grand Central was a band formed by Prince's cousin, drummer Charles "Chazz" Smith, which Prince and André Cymone joined in 1974, while still in high-school. Prince played guitar and piano, but would also share vocals with Anderson in what was mainly an instrumental band, playing clubs and parties in the Minneapolis area. As time went by and Prince's musical interests broadened, he found himself producing the arrangements for the band. Grand Central evolved into Shampayne and started playing original music.
