I Got Over It is the twelfth track on Valerie Carter ’s first posthumous album The Lost Tapes. The song was written by Prince and Valerie Carter.

While specific recording dates are not known, liner notes to the album suggest this was one of several songs Valerie Carter and Prince wrote together in the late 1970s. Toto’s members Jeff Porcaro, David Hungate and Steve Lukather play on that song (on drums, bass and guitar respectively).

Valerie Carter was a member of the band Howdy Moon and released two solo albums in the Seventies. She later released an album in 1996 and an EP in 1998 (Find A River). The latter included a cover of Prince’s Crazy You.

I Got Over It is included on the compilation album The Lost Tapes, which includes unreleased songs recorded by Valerie Carter during her career. The song was found on a cassette after Valerie Carter’s passing. The sound of the rain has been added while compiling the album to hide the hiss at the beginning of the song. This track holds the distinction of the longest time between recording and release of any Prince-related track; approximately 41 years from basic tracking (1977) to release (December 2018).
