Insatiable is the twelfth track on Prince's 13th album Diamonds And Pearls, the first album to be credited to Prince and the New Power Generation, and, four weeks after the album's release, Insatiable was released as the album's third single in the USA (on the same day as the Cream maxi-single).
Basic tracking took place in October 1990 at Larrabee Sound Studios in North Hollywood, California. The track was included as the seventh track on the December 1990, configuration of Diamonds And Pearls, but was moved to become the twelfth track on the 1 March 1991 and 8 May 1991 configurations, where it remained for release.
In 2000, Insatiable was planned for inclusion on When 2 R In Love: The Ballads Of Prince (likely in re-recorded form, although it is possible this was planned but not executed). The album did not receive many votes by visitors at Prince: A Celebration, however, and was ultimately abandoned.
