Love On A Blue Train is the tenth and final track on Sheila E.’s third album Sheila E., but the previous year, Love On A Blue Train was released as a single (in Japan only) accompanying The Glamorous Club Dance EP, a Japan-only EP of extended versions of Sheila E.’s singles.

In 1986, Love On A Blue Train was used with a one-minute video in which Sheila sings with her band in a TV-advertisement for the HiFI Maclord VCR model manufactured by National in Japan (one another commercial for this brand was also made using the song Hold Me from the same album).

Basic tracking took place on 17 December 1985 at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California, when Prince recorded two version, a faster and slower rendition. More work, including creating an instrumental version was done 10 months later.
