He said "Welcome to [[Paisley Park Studios|Paisley Park]]. I wrote this last night, knowing you were on your way" and handed me a sheet of paper with the handwritten lyrics of '''Martika’s Kitchen''' on it. The first thing I said was "Can I hear It?". He told me "It’s in my head". I was excited to have my very own, [[Prince]]-penned theme song, filled with sexy personality, and so much playfullness. I got a real kick out of the old-style, double entendre lyrics."''

Martika’s Kitchen is the first track on Martika’s second album Martika’s Kitchen, and, around two months after the album’s release, Martika’s Kitchen was released as the album’s second single. In 1997, the single edit was included as the fifth track on the compilation album The Best Of Martika: More Than You Know. In 1998, the album version was included as the sixth track on the compilation album I Feel The Earth Move (released in Germany only). In 2005, the single edit was included as the fifth track on the compilation album Toy Soldiers: The Best Of Martika.

Although specific recording dates are unknown, basic tracking took place in December 1990 or early 1991 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. In the liner notes for the expanded 2018 re-release of Martika’s Kitchen [Reheated Edition], Martika discussed the song’s recording:"I remember sitting in Prince’s office for our first meeting. He said "Welcome to Paisley Park. I wrote this last night, knowing you were on your way" and handed me a sheet of paper with the handwritten lyrics of Martika’s Kitchen on it. The first thing I said was "Can I hear It?". He told me "It’s in my head". I was excited to have my very own, Prince-penned theme song, filled with sexy personality, and so much playfullness. I got a real kick out of the old-style, double entendre lyrics."

Later in 1991, Prince reused the musical backing of Martika’s Kitchen for two entirely separate tracks, Work That Fat and Boom Box (see these songs entries for details).
