Poom Poom is the third track on the third and final disc of Prince's 20th album Crystal Ball (his fourth using the name ).
Specific recording dates are not known, but the track is believed to have been recorded in Spring, 1995, most likely at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. The track was premiered in The New Power Generation Stores in London and Minneapolis on 7 June 1995 to celebrate Prince's 37th birthday (stated as 's 2nd birthday). The song was copyrighted at the Library of Congress on 25 August 1995 (along with Die, Right Back Here In My Arms and Journey 2 The Center Of Your Heart). The song reuses some music and loops from Big Fun. The Crystal Ball liner notes state that the track was not intended for any album prior to its inclusion on Crystal Ball. The 2000 song Bada Boom reused some of the music and lyrics of Poom Poom, but is a separate song (see Bada Boom for more details).
