Poorgoo was initially released (in a rehearsal version) as the second track on Prince's 1995 VHS release The Undertaker. In 2001, the same recording of the track (although this time credited to SymbolSmallerBlue.png), was released on mp3 as part of NPG Music Club Edition # 11, with an accompanying .mov video taken directly from The Undertaker (on the same day as Gett Off (Live) and the promotional video of Dolphin).

The released version was recorded as part of the session for the aborted The Undertaker album on 14 June 1993 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (along with versions of The Ride, Honky Tonk Women, Bambi, Zannalee, The Undertaker and Dolphin, the day before recording Calhoun Square). It is unclear if a studio version by Prince/SymbolSmallerBlue.png exists, however, it was placed (as Poor Goo) on a Playtime By Versace project in mid-late 1995, so it is possible a 'true' studio version of it also exists.
