According to engineer James "Fluff" Harley, Prince wanted to do a Queen-like stadium anthem (much like We Are The Champions). Lines like The veil of the sky draws open. The roar of the chariots touch down and We come in the name of the purple and gold. All of the odds r in r favor demonstrate its team-supporting nature.

  • After the Vikings lost their play off game this song was made for, against the New Orleans Saints, Sheila E. (a Saints fan) posted a mocking internet video (viewable here), where she is dressed to look like Prince circa 1985, complete with painted on thin mustache and a mole on the cheek. Over a rudimentary Minneapolis sound-style drum-beat she poses in a cocky manner while texts boasting about how the Saints are better than the Vikings were superimposed over the screen. Sheila can meanwhile be seen trying to look sultry (as Prince), doing goofy dance moves. This was done in good fun as Prince and Sheila had been on good terms around the time.
