Serotonin (originally titled Kamasutra Overture #5) is the sixth track on the The NPG Orchestra’s first and only album Kamasutra, initially released on cassette in 1997 (the album was later included as a bonus CD on the direct order version of Crystal Ball, Prince’s 20th album Crystal Ball, the fourth album to be credited to SymbolSmallerBlue.png). Two years earlier, however, it was included in full (as Kamasutra Overture #5) as the twelfth track on The Versace Experience (Prelude 2 Gold) promo cassette given to attendees of the Versace collection of Paris Fashion Week.

Basic tracking dates are unknown, but it is believed that the track was recorded (as Kamasutra Overture #5) in May 1995 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota, with orchestral overdubs by Clare Fischer’s orchestra at Ocean Way Recording, Hollywood, California done later that summer.

The track’s title refers to the hormone serotonin, a well-known contributor to feelings of well-being, also known as a happiness hormone.
