Controversy (Live In Hawaii) is a live single recorded on the World Tour 2003, included in a deluxe box-set of the book Prince In Hawaii as a one-track CD single. The single included only a live version of Controversy, which had previously been available as a download on the NPG Music Club's Musicology Download Store, beginning with the opening of the store on 29 March, 2004.
Receiving only a limited release, the single was not eligible for the charts.
Of note is that the single is credited to Prince and the New Power Generation (shortened to Prince & The NPG) - the first time a single was co-credited to the band since 2002's similarly low-key release Days Of Wild.
The single marked the third distinct release of Controversy as a single. Following the initial release of Controversy in 1981 to precede the album Controversy, the single Controversy was released in 1993 to coincide with Prince's first compilation albums The Hits 1 and The Hits 2, taken specifically from The Hits 2 (also included as the second disc of The Hits / The B-Sides), containing entirely new packaging and tracks from the original release. No other song has been the title track of three different single releases by Prince.
