It was released a month prior to the album, and was released commercially only in the UK, Germany and Japan, while in the USA it was only available as a promotional release.

A few days prior to the single's release, on 7 June 1996, Warner Bros. streamed the song in RealAudio format on a special website dedicated to Chaos And Disorder, www.wbr.com/chaosanddisorder, the first time a Prince track had premiered officially online. A promotional cassette was also sent to members of the 'Controversy' fan club on the same date to commemorate Prince's 38th birthday.

The single reached number 36 on the UK Gallup Singles Chart but failed to chart in the USA.
