− | |trivia = The released mix of this track was done by Nick Bolas specifically for the [[Album: 1999 Deluxe|1999 ''Super Deluxe Edition'']] release. It was made to replicate the original mix from the time the song was initially tracked, as much as possible. So even when a slightly different mix of this track might exist, the now released version is not considered a true alternate mix of the track. | + | |trivia = The released mix of this track was done by Niko Bolas specifically for the [[Album: 1999 Deluxe|1999 ''Super Deluxe Edition'']] release. Teacher, Teacher is a song first recorded in Spring 1982 at Prince’s Kiowa Trail Home Studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota (along with several other tracks that would re-appear over the next several years).
On 18 June 1985, Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman worked on the track further, at The Complex Studios, Los Angeles, California, adding vocals and sitar. It was included as the eighth track on the late April 1986 configuration of the Prince and the Revolution album Dream Factory. It was included as the seventh track on the first disc of the 3 June 1986 configuration, but was not included on the 18 July 1986 configuration. It was later sent to Three O’Clock for consideration along with Neon Telephone, Girl O’ My Dreams, We Can Funk and Can’t Stop This Feeling I Got, but the band decided to use only Neon Telephone.
The song was released in 2019 as the tenth track on the Vault Tracks part 2 disc of a Deluxe Edition edition of the 1999 album. The 1985 updated version of the song was released in September 2020 as the second track of Vault Tracks part 1, one of the discs with previously unreleased tracks included with the Sign O’ The Times Super Deluxe Edition.
