The Max is an unreleased song (entirely different from the SymbolSmallerBlue.png album track of the same name) recorded on 18 February 1988 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. It is not known if the track was intended for any specific project at that time.

Prince gave the song to Eric Leeds in July 1989 (along with You’re All I Want, My Summertime Thang, Pickle, U Should Be Mine, Wet Dream Cousin, Vibrator and XYZ) when considering songs for a new Madhouse album (later called 26, which later evolved into Eric Leeds' solo album Times Squared), presumably to be used as an instrumental; it is not believed that Leeds worked on the track, however.

A saxophone riff from this track was later reused in Carmen On Top.
