The Morning After is the third track on the download version of Prince’s 33rd studio album Lotusflow3r (the song was replaced on the CD version by Crimson And Clover). A tape photographed in Prince’s vault at Paisley Park Studios has the song listed, dated 21 October 2004, which alludes this is the exact date for the recording (the same day as Glasscutter and Streets Of Panama). It was included as the seventh track on a late 2005 configuration of 3121, but was removed as the album underwent some changes before release.
