While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place between May and December 1997, at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. The track was first played over a PA system during an afterparty at Tipitina’s Warehouse in New Orleans, LA, on 2 January 1998.
The song's only known live performance took place almost 10 years after its recording, on 10 February 2007 (a.m.): 3121 Jazz Cuisine @ Rio Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, NV, USA.
