Welcome 2 America is the first song and the title-track of the tenth posthumous album Welcome 2 America (the first full previously-unreleased studio album of Prince material). A tape photographed in Prince’s vault at Paisley Park Studios lists it as being recorded on 15 March 2010 (along with Yes and Dance 2 The Higher). The song was worked on further in the spring with Shelby J., Elisa Dease and Liv Warfield and additional production by Morris Hayes.

The song was slated for the canceled Welcome 2 America album in 2011 and performed live on 18 December 2010 during the first Madison Square Garden date of the Welcome 2 America Tour.

On 8 April, 2021, Welcome 2 America was made available for download as a preview of this posthumous release. A 7" single was sold exclusively through the official Prince website to promote the release of the posthumous album.
