Whenever is an unreleased instrumental track initially put to reel-to-reel tape in 1974 at the Cookhouse Studios. The recording-session was a result of winning a North Commons Park battle-of-the-band contest, where the prize was $75 and 8 hours recording time at the Cookhouse Studios. Other songs recorded in the session were You Remind Me Of Me, It's Too Late and Love Unlimited's instrumental Love's Theme.
In late 1975 or early 1976 it was recorded again by the Grand Central core band of Prince, André Anderson and Morris Day, at ASI Studio, Minneapolis, MN, USA (during the same set of sessions as 39th St. Party, Lady Pleasure, Machine, You're Such A Fox and Grand Central). The sessions were engineered and overseen by David Rivkin (who is assumed to have produced the tracks also). It is not known if the track was considered for inclusion on any project.
