Basic tracking took place in Summer 1978, at Prince’s France Avenue Home Studio in Edina, Minnesota (along with Love, Love, Love), although the basic tracking took place by Pepé Willie while house-sitting for Prince, who was away. When Prince returned, he recorded bass guitar overdubs, also at the home studio.

You Can Be My Teacher was included on every reissues of 94 EastSymbolic Beginning (The Early Years in 1999, One Man Jam in 2000 and 94 East Featuring Prince in 2020).
