Trivia

  • This Saturday night jam was a spur of the moment thing. Prince and the band went to Brussels following the Milan gig on 3 November in anticipation for the show in Antwerp on the 8th. After news spread via website MoQuake.com, in the afternoon of the 6th, the Viage first only confirmed the private party, but had no info on tickets. At 18.00 official confirmation was to come trough radio station Studio Brussel, but they seemed to know as little as anyone. Around 21:00 with about 50 people queuing outside the venue. News came that doors would open at 01:30 and tickets would be € 100 (cash only). By this time both Elisa Dease ("Show tonite in Brussels! Better get my sleep on. It’s gonna be a long funky nite.") and Liv Warfield ("Tweet tweet....Purple news! Show tonight! Yee! Time to rest up...Y'all know how we party!!!” people it’s official!") had confirmed the show via their respective twitter accounts.
  • The band began Joy In Repetition as the audience was filing in the room. The back-up singers were absent, as was Prince who entered stage at 9 minutes into the song. Instead of joining in he says something to Ida Nielsen, left stage and then came back to give John Blackwell a cue and asks Ida to come backstage, before he asks the band to end the song. The band except for Cassandra O’Neal and John Blackwell vacate the stage.
  • Between Joy In Repetition and Stratus, Prince speaks backstage to Ida. A female in the audience calls his name, after which he turns and waves, before Ida comes back on stage.
  • Stratus starts with a long drums introduction with Prince still off-stage. When he comes out, he asks to turn the guitar up, and proceeds to play with his back to the audience until the end of Renato Neto’s solo. Then, while Ida does her solo part, Prince locates to John’s drums platform. He steps down briefly to ask Ida to go and play center-stage then returns to the drum riser, before jumping from it on stage with a yell. John Blackwell and Cassandra O’Neal both take a solo in the rendition.
  • Sometimes It Snows In April features a long guitar intro, after which Prince plays to the melody of a verse and chorus on guitar, before giving Renato Neto the lead on synths for the second verse. He takes the lead back on guitar for the third verse.
  • During Delirious, Prince asks for his light tech to dim up the lights. The song segues into a blues improvisation quoting A Night In Tunisia. This part includes an organ solo by Morris Hayes.
  • As Soft And Wet starts, Prince goes backstage and doesn’t come back before the middle of the I Wanna Be Your Lover coda.
  • Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad? is aborted after 32 measures that make up the usual guitar intro.
  • During Sexy Dancer, Prince asks the back up singers, who appear on stage for the first time of the night, to bring up dancers from the audience on stage. About 50 people come up, and stay on stage until the end of Controversy. Prince relocates to John’s drum riser once more, and comes back up front only to sing lead on the Uptown / Raspberry Beret Cream section.
  • During the ensuing Let’s Work, Prince is back upfront, and takes Renato’s seat for a moment during the second verse, only to return to the platform near John Blackwell during U Got The Look.
  • During the first verse of medley Free / Pearls B4 The Swine / Love... Thy Will Be Done, only Cassandra O’Neal, Ida Nielsen and the back up singers are on stage. They are joined by the rest of the band during the second verse of Free and start playing at second chorus. Prince appears on the last verse of Love... Thy Will Be Done with a tamborine, and adds backing vox.
  • She’s Always In My Hair is started by Prince playing tamborine, before he switches to the Hohner guitar.
  • The backing vox trio are off-stage during Dreamer.
  • For Chelsea Rodgers, Prince relocates to Blackwell’s platform, and picks a blue cowbell, before exchanging it with a tamborine. By the end of the song, he pretends to throw the instrument to the crowd, but doesn’t.
  • During Baby I’m A Star, Prince does throw his tamborine into the crowd. During blackout following the show a minder comes out to pick it back.
  • During (Theme Song From) Which Way Is Up?, Prince picks a red spray-paint can and draws an upwards arrow on John Blackwell’s left bass drum, shortly afterwards, during Renato’s solo, he draws a rightwards pointing arrow on the right 'bass drum'. Bria Valente shortly guests with a tamborine, after Prince asked her to come on stage. Prince also occasionally plays keyboards on Renato’s Yamaha Motif XS 6 on this song.
