Carmen Electra is the first and only studio album by singer/model Carmen Electra, and was released in February 1993. The album was largely written, produced and performed by Prince and other members of the New Power Generation band.

Sessions and compiling

The album was recorded from Spring 1991 to Summer 1992, although Good Judy Girlfriend dates back to late 1988 or early 1989 and was originally considered for inclusion on the unreleased Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic album. Fantasia Erotica was also recorded earlier, in late 1989.

Tracks containing input by Prince which were recorded for potential inclusion on the album included Carmen On Top, The Juice, Power From Above, Powerline and Go Carmen Go but they remain unreleased.

Promotion

The album produced four singles, Go Go Dancer, Fantasia Erotica (both of which preceded the album’s release), Everybody Get On Up and Fun (which was only available in limited numbers in 1998 through 1-800 New Funk after originally being planned for a promotional release in 1991).

The album, originally titled On Top, was planned for release in July 1992 (while Carmen Electra was the support act on the Diamonds And Pearls Tour), with the first single, Go Go Dancer, preceding the release in June 1992, and Warner Bros. sent commercials for the album to MTV.

The album was not released for another six months, however, and was not given much publicity upon its final release. The album did not enter the charts.
