Contribution is the second studio album by British soul singer Mica Paris, and was released in October 1990 in the UK and in February 1991 in the USA (on the same day as Times Squared by Eric Leeds, also featuring musical input by Prince).
The album contained one track written by Prince, If I Love U 2 Nite.
Sessions and compiling
Prince met Mica Paris in 1988 during the Lovesexy Tour (she was in the audience of the aftershow given at the Camden Palace, London, England on 26 July 1988 (a.m.)), and promised her to give her some songs for her next album. Prince sent her a cassette containing four songs to choose from for the album, but Paris chose only to record If I Love U 2 Nite (other songs titles included on the cassette are unknown).
The track was entirely re-recorded by Paris’ musicians
Prince later worked on a different version of the track with Mayte.
Promotion
The album produced three singles, Contribution, South Of The River and If I Love U 2 Nite. The album did not enter the US Billboard Pop Chart, but reached number 58 on the Billboard R&B Chart. In her native country of the UK, the album reached number 26 on the Gallup Top 40 Album Chart.
