Different Light is the second studio album by The Bangles.
The album contained Manic Monday, written Prince under the pseudonym Christopher.
Sessions and compiling
Prince's input was a result of Prince meeting The Bangles' lead singer Susannah Hoffs on a flight to London, England, in early February 1985 (while flying over for the BPI Awards, 11 February 1985); Hoffs asked Prince to provide songs for their next album, and he provided them with Manic Monday and Jealous Girl, which they rejected.
Prince's original version (originally intended for the Apollonia 6 album) was recorded at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California, and the Bangles are believed to have used some of the basic tracks on their own version.
Promotion
The album produced five singles, Manic Monday, If She Knew What She Wants, Walk Like An Egyptian, Walking Down Your Street, and Following. Manic Monday became The Bangles' biggest hit to date (reaching number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, behind Prince and the Revolution's own Kiss, before their follow-up single, Walk Like An Egyptian, reached number 1.
The album reached number 2 on the US Billboard Top Pop Albums Charts.
