Krush Groove is the soundtrack album to the Michael Schultz movie Krush Groove, and was released in September 1985, four weeks before the movie.

The album contained the song Holly Rock, by Sheila E., written by Prince (although credited to Sheila E.), which was not available on any of Sheila E.’s own studio albums.

Sessions and compiling

Prince’s contribution, Holly Rock, was recorded in April 1985. Sheila E. also raps on Krush Groovin' but neither she or Prince wrote the lyrics and/or the music.

A Love Bizarre appears in the movie but is not included on the soundtrack.

Promotion

The album produced six singles:

The soundtrack reached number 79 on the US Billboard Pop Chart, and number 14 on the Billboard R&B Chart.

Additional Information

Promotion (at time of release) Trivia

  • The album was released concurrently with the movie Krush Groove, so the two acted as cross-promotion.
  • Krush Groove is the first album to contain a song written by Prince (Holly Rock) and a song written by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (Force MDs' Tender Love). Both songs were released as singles. While Holly Rock did not enter the charts, Tender Love reached number 4 in the US Billboard Hot Black Singles chart and number 10 on US Billboard Hot 100.
