The Unexpected is the second studio album by Liv Warfield (the first to include input by Prince), released in February 2014. The album includes two songs written or co-written by Prince: The Unexpected and Your Show. Additionally he is credited as executive producer on the whole album.

Sessions and compiling

According to an interview Liv Warfield gave to Oregon Live, Prince wrote the title track for Warfield after she had already decided on the album’s title; she did not have a title track for the album until that point.

While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking of The Unexpected and Your Show is likely to have taken place in 2013 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA. The rest of the album was recorded in Portland, OR.

Prince released his own version of The Unexpected with 3rdEyeGirl (now titled Wow) on their album Plectrumelectrum later in 2014.

Promotion.

The album was preceded by the digital release of two singles, Why Do You Lie? and Catch Me If You Can. The album reached position 24 on the Billboard Heatseekers Album chart.
