Xenophobia is an unreleased 7CD set of live recordings from the Xenophobia Celebration in June, 2002, recorded at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA. Prior to the album's formal announcement, a live version of 1+1+1 Is 3 (titled 1+1+1 = 3) was released for download on the NPG Music Club on 13 July, 2002, with Prince adding a spoken overdub at the end saying "Xenophobia - Coming soon 2 a monitor near U", indicating a possible digital release.

The album was announced cryptically in a post on the NPG Music Club following the availability of bootleg recordings of all seven days's shows. The announcement stated: "Dig if u will the picture... a box set of CDs from the NPG arrive at ur doorstep one Friday morning in the near future, just in time 4 the party u were planning 4 six of ur friends. u anxiously open, hoping it is- YES! The new 7 CD box set of XENOPHOBIA! But wait... u already bought this set from a bootlegger. How do u feel?"

The announcement was followed by a spokesperson for the club discussing the release with Yahoo.com's Launch music site, but calling it a 3CD set and stating that it was to contain tracks from the One Nite Alone... Tour. According to a retraction by the site two days later, however, Prince read the article and asked his publicist to clarify that details of the set were not final.

A post on the NPG Music Club followed, stating that the Launch story was a "misinterpretation" of a post about the "new 7-CD box set of Xenophobia" that would soon be mailed to club members. It seems likely that the spokesperson's description of the 3CD set was, in fact, mistakenly describing the One Nite Alone... Live! box set which was publicly released later in the year.

It is not known which tracks would have been included on the album, although given that the One Nite Alone... Live! box set was compiled around the same time, it seems likely that, other than perhaps the title track Xenophobia, there may not have been much overlap in the tracks included, leaving this set to include many of the tracks performed during the celebration that were not regularly performed on the One Nite Alone... Tour.
