Bold Generation is a song recorded on 11 January 1982 (the same day as Gigolos Get Lonely Too and You're All I Want) at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California, during recording sessions that yielded tracks for The Time's second album What Time Is It?. The song was initially intended for the group and features only Prince and Morris Day, like the majority of The Time's tracks. Bold Generation was not kept for What Time Is It? but was released in 2019 as a track on one of the bonus discs with the deluxe edition of the 1999 album.

In Autumn-Winter 1989, the song was taken from the vault and reworked as New Power Generation. It was considerably overdubbed but retained the original drum track of Morris Day, buried in the mix.
