Cloreen Bacon Skin is the eighth track on the second disc of Prince’s 20th album Crystal Ball (his fourth using the name ).
The album is not clearly divided between Prince tracks and tracks, but the liner notes' discussion of this track discuss "Prince" making this track, so it is credited to Prince in this entry.
Basic tracking took place at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California on 27 March 1983 (the day after Jungle Love, and the same day as My Summertime Thang, during a two-day break from the 1999 Tour).
The liner notes in Crystal Ball state that only Prince (bass guitar and vocals) and Morris Day (drums) appear on the improvised track (it incorrectly states, however, that the track was recorded during sessions for The Time’s second album What Time Is It?, which was released the previous year).
While the track was created spontaneously, Prince used a similar emphasis on bass and drums on some later tracks, such as Irresistible Bitch, and music from Cloreen Bacon Skin was sampled (or simply quoted) in both Tricky and Soul Psychodelicide, before its own release many years later.
