Cold Coffee & Cocaine is the eighth track recorded at some point during the spring of 1983 at Prince's Kiowa Trail Home Studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota, during a solo piano rehearsal by Prince (along with Why The Butterflies). It is not known if the track was intended for Purple Rain or any other project, but it seems unlikely in any event Prince recorded a proper studio version of it. The lyrics of the song are sung in Prince's "Jamie Starr" voice, suggesting that the track may have been done with The Time in mind. The narrator in the song is tired of his lover, because all she offers him are "cold coffee and cocaine."
