Eternity is the first track on Sheena Easton’s eighth album No Sound But A Heart, and released as its first and only single. In 1993, it was included as the 19th and final track on The World Of Sheena Easton: The Singles Collection compilation. The song was written, produced and largely recorded by Prince (although production is credited to David Leonard, and Prince uses the pseudonyms Rocker Happyfeller and Freddie "The Phantom" for musician credits).

Basic tracking took place in December 1985 (on 8 December or 14 December) in Hollywood, California. Prince first offered the track to George Clinton for a project he was producing for Vanessa Williams, but the song was not used. Sheena Easton’s vocals were recorded later, although details of her recording are not known.

Chaka Khan included a version of Eternity on her eighth album CK. Although Prince contributed to the album (on the track Sticky Wicked), he did not contribute to this track; it is considered a cover version, therefore, and is not discussed in detail here.
