Girl is the second track on The Time's first album The Time, and, in late 1981, Girl was released as the album's third and final single. The song was written by Prince, although the album does not contain any writing credits.
While specific recording dates are not known, initial tracking took place in April, 1981 at Prince's Kiowa Trail Home Studio, Chanhassen, MN, USA (along with the rest of the album). As with much of the rest of the album, the recording features only Prince and Morris Day.
