Girls & Boys is the fifth track on Prince’s eighth album Parade, the third to be credited to Prince and the Revolution, and, four months after the album’s release, Girls & Boys was released as the album’s third single in the UK and Europe. The track was included as a b-side on the corresponding US single release, Anotherloverholenyohead.

In 1989, it was included as the second track on a CD re-release of Kiss, the album’s first single.

In 1996, the song was also included as the fourth track on the soundtrack album Girl 6 (a compilation of music by Prince and associated artists for the movie Girl 6, directed by Spike Lee).

In 2002, a live version was included as the eighth track on the live album One Nite Alone... The Aftershow: It Ain’t Over!.

In 2008, a 2007 live version was included as the second track on the live album Indigo Nights (beginning a medley which continues with The Song Of The Heart, Delirious and Just Like U (Monologue)).

Basic tracking took place on 8 July 1985 at the Washington Avenue Warehouse in Edina, Minnesota.

Girls & Boys is the first album track released by Prince (under his own name) to contain musical contributions by Eric Leeds who would become long-term musical collaborators (Eric Leeds had previously contributed to The Family side-project).
