* The released mix of '''How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore (Take 2)'''  was done by Nick Bolas specifically for the [[Album: 1999 Deluxe|1999 ''Super Deluxe'']] release. It was made to replicate the original mix from the time the song was initially tracked, as much as possible. So even when a slightly different mix of this track might exist, the now released version is not considered a true alternate mix of the track.

How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore was released as the b-side on the single 1999, the first single from Prince’s fifth album 1999. It was also featured on a re-issue of the cassette release of the album in 1983, which now featured the content of the other teritories 1LP version with How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore and D.M.S.R. added.

In 1993, it was included as the 16th track on The B-Sides compilation (included as the third and final disc on The Hits / The B-Sides).

In 1996, the song was also included as the eleventh track on the soundtrack album Girl 6 (a compilation of music by Prince and associated artists for the movie Girl 6, directed by Spike Lee). In late 1998, it was included on the re-issue of the 1999 single.

In 2002, a live version of the track was included as the sixteenth track on the second disc of the One Nite Alone... Live! album (along with Xenophobia, Extraordinary, Avalanche, Family Name, Raspberry Beret, The Everlasting Now, EyeBlue.png Wanna B Ur Lover, Diamonds & Pearls, The Beautiful Ones and Nothing Compares 2 U from the same show).

In 2019, a different studio take of the song was released in 2019 as the thirteenth and last track on the Vault Tracks part 1 disc of a Super Deluxe Edition edition of the 1999 album. Two live versions were also included on this edition.

Basic tracking of How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore took place at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California on 28 April 1982 (three days after Free, and on the same day as micing an early cut of Something In The Water (Does Not Compute)).

  • The title was written with an added question mark on first release on the US single for 1999, but was written sans the question mark on most releases since.
  • The released mix of How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore (Take 2) was done by Nick Bolas specifically for the 1999 Super Deluxe Edition release. It was made to replicate the original mix from the time the song was initially tracked, as much as possible. So even when a slightly different mix of this track might exist, the now released version is not considered a true alternate mix of the track.
