I Spend My Time Loving You is an unreleased track recorded as a home recording in early-mid 1976 at the Russell Ave, Anderson house, Minneapolis, Minnesota (during the same set of sessions as Don’t You Wanna Ride?, Hey Lover, nine untitled Instrumentals, Leaving For New York, Nightingale and Rock Me, Lover). The song contains layered vocals and acoustic guitar only.
Prince’s handwritten notes as used in The Beautiful Ones book released posthumously in 2019 revealed that I Spend My Time Loving You was at one point intended to be the fifth and final track on side one of his debut album For You. It is not known if the song was fully recorded in a professional studio, though, and it has not been confirmed that the album was ever actually compiled in this form; it is certainly possible that Prince was simply working through ideas when writing down this tracklist.
