“Instrumental” is an unreleased song with no known title recorded on 24 March 1987 (six days before the release of Sign O’ The Times), at the Washington Avenue Warehouse in Edina, Minnesota, as a tribute to Miles Davis, who was visiting Minneapolis and stopped by to visit the recording. Prince asked if Davis could stay while he finished the drum track, at which point Davis met Atlanta Bliss for the first time, and complimented him on his trumpet work on the Parade album. Eric Leeds has stated that the track was intended for Miles Davis' use, but Prince may never have even played him the final track.
