Lovin’ Cup is the second track on 94 East’s first collection of studio recordings Minneapolis Genius, featuring Prince on drums, guitar and keyboards.

A preliminary version of the song was recorded in Summer 1978 at Sound 80, Minneapolis, Minnesota (during the same set of sessions as Dance To The Music Of The World and Just Another Sucker). Sue Ann Carwell added vocal overdubs soon after the original recording unbeknownst to Willie. The song was considered for her first album but Pepé Willie prevented her from doing so. As with the other tracks included on Minneapolis Genius, additional recording was done by Willie at Blue Wave Recording Studio, St. Philip, Barbados. The original 1978 versions remain unreleased.

In 1995, it was included as the third track on the first disc of Symbolic Beginning (re-released in 1999 as The Early Years and in 2020 as 94 East Featuring Prince) and as the first track on the second disc of One Man Jam released in 2000.
