Basic tracking dates are unknown, but it is likely that the track was recorded in late 1995 or early 1996 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, Minnesota. It features British singer/songwriter Kate Bush on background vocals, marking her first and only appearance on a Prince/ recording (although Prince had previously appeared on her track Why Should I Love You?).
