- 1985 – At the 11th annual American Music Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA, USA Prince is presented with awards for Favorite Album, (for Purple Rain), in both pop-rock and black music categories, and Favorite Single (for When Doves Cry). After the ceremony, 45 artists recorded the song "We Are The World." Prince did not attend the recording, but Sheila E. did.
