Shhh is the twelfth track (ninth song) on Tevin Campbell’s second album I’m Ready, and around the same time as the album’s release, Shhh was available as a promotional single in the USA (with no commercial release).

The song was written and produced by Prince under the pseudonym Paisley Park. Tevin Campbell’s version was also included as the third track on the 2001 compilation The Best Of Tevin Campbell and as the third track on the 2005 Rhino Hi-Five: Tevin Campbell EP.

Prince (as SymbolSmallerBlue.png) played the song live in 1994 in a very different arrangement, and reclaimed the song by including it as the fourth track (third song) on his 17th album The Gold Experience, the first album to be credited to SymbolSmallerBlue.png.

Basic tracking took place as a live recording between 14-25 June 1992 at Olympic Studios, London, England, while in London for the Diamonds And Pearls Tour.

When Prince became involved in Tevin Campbell’s album I’m Ready in September 1992, this song was re-vamped (along with recording Down, Holly Don’t Care, The P, The Halls Of Desire, Paris 1798430 and Uncle Sam), and Tevin Campbell’s vocals were added.

SymbolSmallerBlue.png’s version was a new version recorded in early 1994 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (during the same set of sessions as EyeBlue.png Hate U, Days Of Wild, and new versions of The Most Beautiful Girl In The World).

  • "Shhh" was the only wording shown on the cover of a promo cassette for Carmen Electra’s single Fun in 1992. The same artwork was also used for a 12" promo of Carmen Electra’s Go Go Dancer. Neither track is related, although the artwork was likely created at around the time Prince first recorded Shhh.
