Holly Rock was the fifth single to be released from Krush Groove, the soundtrack album to the movie Krush Groove, starring Sheila E. It was released nine months after the album's release, and marked the first single release by Sheila E. not to have been taken from any of her own albums.

The b-side, Toy Box, was taken from her second album Romance 1600. The 12" version also included an extended version of Holly Rock.

Prince wrote and largely performed both songs, although his input on both tracks was uncredited.

The single did not enter the charts.
